What's Happening in November at the GWC
In November, Mary Ridgeway, Director Emeritus of Kalmia Gardens located in Hartsville in the Pee Dee region of South Carolina will introduce us to a very special garden gem. Kalmia Gardens are a botanical treasure in both natural beauty and history. Wildlife and bird watching are important parts of the experience, aided by the diversity of habitat from upland through swampy creek edges. The Gardens are accessible every day of the year and there is no admission fee. Trails and boardwalks allow visitors to explore safely. An observation platform gives views over the bluff and of Black Creek. Kalmia Gardens offers a meaningful blend of history, horticulture, ecology, and public amenity. Whether you're interested in plant diversity, local history, or just looking for a calming walk in nature, it’s a gem well worth the visit! Join us at the JC Raulston Arboretum on Tuesday, November 25th at 7:00 PM for an evening of good-fellowship and learning! NOTE: we usually meet on the third Tuesday of each month but this month is different to avoid conflicting with JC Raulston's "Moonlight in the Garden."

Time to Reserve Your Seat at the December Awards Banquet!
Our annual GWC banquet and awards dinner is an event that so many of us look forward to. Why? Because we have such a great time with fellowship and the food makes most of us members of the clean plate club, and yes, you may go back for seconds!
The date this year is Tuesday, December 9. The event, as always, will be held at the NC State University Club, 4200 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC. Socializing begins at 6:00 and a cash bar remains open until 7:00 when a luscious buffet dinner will be served. The menu includes two salads, two entrees, three sides and dessert, plus rolls, tea and coffee. The cost this year remains the same. What was a bargain last year is a SUPER bargain this year! Members once again pay only half of the actual cost - $25.00. Members also may bring one guest at the same low, low $25.00 rate. Additional non-member guests, of course, pay the full cost of the dinner, $50.00.
Deadline for payment is December 2nd. Payment can be made by cash or check (made out to the Gardeners of Wake County) at our November 18th meeting, or checks can be sent to our Treasurer, James Joslin (his address is in the Club Directory), or, my personal favorite, using the online payment links below.
Bottom line, there will be no tickets sold at the door on December 9th. All reservations must be made and paid in advance. This is necessary so that we can place our food order with the caterer.
Mark your calendar for our most festive event for the winter and plan to join your friends and fellow GWC members at the banquet. It won’t be the same without you!
